Free 1-hour online guidance sessions on making an Affiliate application to IHBC available
The IHBC is delighted to offer our Supporter members free 1-hour online advice sessions that show just how straightforward our Affiliate application actually is.
The session leads said: ‘We will guide you through those same principles that we use in conservation accreditation assessment – for IHBC Associate and Full Member applications – but at an introductory level. We know you will find the session helpful, and it should encourage you to submit your Affiliate application.’
The next session scheduled on Zoom at 1pm on Thursday 13th October.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
[edit] Membership Application Training Events (MATE)
MATE seminars offer talks and exercises to break down the application process, exploring the IHBC’s Areas of Competence and Conservation Cycle model, while also answering any queries. This ensures that applicants from any discipline or sector can get a common grounding in how the IHBC assesses interdisciplinary conservation standards in line with established international conservation standards and models, notably ICOMOS.
These events are a great way for prospective applicants to find out how to understand their skills, knowledge and experience in the context of IHBC membership criteria and accreditation. And all this is free too, offered to anyone interested in IHBC membership as part of the IHBC’s charitable support for the care of the built and historic environment. Priority is given to existing IHBC members, Branches, networks and supporters, including commercial practices signed up to our HESPR quality assurance scheme.

IHBC Director Seán O’Reilly and Operations Director Fiona Newton will lead the session, offering accessible advice on how to complete your application to demonstrate an ‘awareness’ level on all aspects of built and historic environment conservation.
The session leads said: ‘We will guide you through those same principles that we use in conservation accreditation assessment – for IHBC Associate and Full Member applications – but at an introductory level.’
‘So this is also a great way to get an initial grounding in our assessment for Affiliate applications. But you can also follow up these sessions with the more substantial support offered for accreditation applications in our ‘MATE’ sessions.’
‘There has been a high success rate in recent Affiliate applications so we know these sessions help applicants see how accessible and achievable the Affiliate application actually is.’
‘Remember too that Affiliate membership is aimed at assessing a very basic level of conservation across all practice areas identified in the IHBC’s assessment.’
‘So these free sessions should help anyone at an early stage of the career as a conservation professional, as well as anyone who just wants to expand their understanding of conservation as an area increasingly recognised for its relevance in the built or historic environment in the 21st century.
